Now that you've softened the floor, dressed the sofa, and decorated the table it's time to add inspiration to the walls. Consider creating your own works of art by taking photos of fall imagery and framing them in handsome wood or elegant metals. Most home furnishings stores carry a wide selection of framed prints landscapes, still lifes, Impressionist visions, abstract contemporaries. Special cards and notes you have received can also make a lovely statement as a framed memento. Don't forget children's artwork to add color and whimsy. By using ready-made, standard frames you can change out the work as often as new pieces are brought from school! You can also frame up a host of non-paper elements; try a family heirloom quilt hung on a wall, or a needlepoint scene crafted over several months, elegantly framed. Perhaps you have collectibles that would benefit from shadow boxing, like tickets and programs from shows or sports memorabilia. Make it personal and flexible to suit your mood and the changing seasons.
Choose one fall color per room and use that color to accessorize with. For example, you can use red in the living room. You can use what is called Barn Red because it gives your room a rustic look. You can also use white to blend the color into your decor. Complete the look with gold curtains that go all the way to the floor.
Fall decorating can be a lot of fun. Using the warm colors of fall, you can make or buy decorations to use inside your home, outside, or both. A good place to start is the front door. All you need is a fall colored wreath to hang on it. These type of wreaths can be bought in many stores in various sizes. If you are a person who likes to work with crafts, you may rather make one yourself. But buying or making, your wreath will remain useful and brought out every year to enjoy.
