Collect natural items from the great outdoors to use as accent pieces. Pine cones, corn stalks, acorns and moss can be combined to create a magnificent centerpiece for your dining room or kitchen table. You can arrange these same items in a vase for a beautiful fall accessory for the living room. Other items from nature to consider include: ornamental grasses, pomegranates, squash, acorns and pumpkins. Coasters made from trees, accessories decorated with twine and other woodsy accent pieces are also perfect for the season.
Choose one fall color per room and use that color to accessorize with. For example, you can use red in the living room. You can use what is called Barn Red because it gives your room a rustic look. You can also use white to blend the color into your decor. Complete the look with gold curtains that go all the way to the floor.
Candles have become ever popular accent today. Look for texture like beeswax, and subtle colors ivory, gold, bronzes and coppers to add a gleam. Available in a wide range of hues, scents, shapes and sizes - you can mix and match to suit your taste. Remember to vary the heights and use odd numbered groupings for a more eclectic and festive feel. Include an array of shapes too, cylindrical, square, triangular, and round are among the most popular. Avoid placing candles on the same surface where there is a lamp - good rule of thumb is to avoid using candles where you have another light source. Use scented candles sparingly and with care so as not to compete with each other. Many are made without scent, particularly for those persons who may be allergy sensitive.
