Lets face it, it isn't an easy job getting your kids to tidy their bedroom and if they have a play room too then getting them to keep two rooms clean can be an absolute nightmare. If you don't have the right storage in the first place then it not only discourages your child from putting things away but makes it virtually impossible for them to do so. Fortunately there are some innovative storage ideas that look great and will last for years too.
But garage sales are a great way to decorate your kid's room. Many well constructed items of furniture or accessories are available as kids grow, and you can take them and remake them into your own with a little paint and adding some other items. Let your child help pick the accessories and also help with the painting; when a child is involved in this process, he will have more of a sense of ownership and will keep the room cleaner. If you don't want to paint a room, consider the use of wall hangings. You can really personalize a room by framing and hanging works of art that your child has done. Old refrigerator art work can be spruced up and matted for beautiful displays. Place them in groups by age done or subject and they make lovely groupings. Even if a child objects to this, they are secretly pleased that their efforts are appreciated. This is another way of involving your kids, spending quality time with them and also makes the decorating project fun and interesting for both of you.
Benches can include storage in the base. The bench seat acts as a lid to the toy box so your son or daughter can open it and get at the toys or other items that are inside. There are revolving bookcases that can be placed in the corner of the room because they can be turned round to get to the books that aren't quite in reach. Entertainment centers are ideal for the tech loving kids (which kids aren't nowadays?). Pretty much anything that needs to be stored can have its own specific place to live until next needed.
