I hear many people tell me that their pad stuck to their floor and it cost them a lot of money to re-finish the floor. The type of pad that does this is an open weave waffle looking pad. It may look and feel like rubber but it actually is a plastic or nylon pad that has a chemical spray applied to it. This chemical is what transfers to the floor and leaves an imprint of the rug pad right on the floor. Real rubber does not harm the floor and a felt and natural rubber carpet pad will prevent slipping and protect the floor.
Area rugs are a decorative and practical addition that can transform any room. Rugs may be used to distinguish rooms in an open floor plan, to add flair to a dull space, or even to protect expensive hardwood from regular wear and tear. Regardless of the reason for decorating with area rugs, these tips and tricks will help you choose the right rug for any room.
If you're using an area rug in a room, don't cover your floor completely. Your original floors will make a nice border to your rug. Even when you want to use a large rug, subtract at least 9-12 inches from your baseboards so that some of your flooring will show through. Finally, always use a non-ski rug pad underneath area rugs to prevent movement of the rug. The rug pad should be about 2 inches smaller than the rug so that it doesn't show through.
