This is dense enough to protect the floor from scratches and indentations. Make sure that the felt rug pad is a 40 ounce, referring to the amount of fiber there is per square yard of pad. The higher the ounce, the more dense the carpet pad. If the rug tends to slip, then a felt and natural rubber rug pad is ideal. Here, the key is to make sure it is natural rubber as opposed to the chemical sprays that look and feel like rubber but actually could severely harm the floor.

Let's just say, for the purposes of an example, that I wanted to make a throw pillow that's seven inches square. Now you need to add a half inch to each side (in other words, a whole inch.) That's the size you'll end up cutting your fabric. Mine will end up being eight inches. That gives you enough room to sew around the edges. Cut two pieces of fabric in this size, then place the two right sides together. Pin one side, making sure that the two pieces are secure. Then, using a basic running stitch, sew to the other end one half inch from the edge. Backstitch a few times before ending with a knot. Continue this around two of the other sides, leaving one side open.

This pad is a dense needle punched recycled jute surface with a natural layer of solid rubber backing. This is the pad that is textured on the surface to grab your rug and the rubber holds everything to the floor. It is 1/4 of an inch thick and extremely dense. Use this safely on all floors as long as you get one with a solid rubber and not a sprayed on latex that can harm floors.
