In the world of fantasy and fairy tales, an area rug can be a flying magic carpet that you either ride on to take your princess for a ride or save you when you are trapped in a cave. Unfortunately, it doesn't happen in real life. Nonetheless, a stationary area rug has still a lot to offer. Who, in the right mind, wouldn't want to feel comfort under their feet, wearing socks or not? Same as carpets, area rugs gives a nice warm homely comfort that no hard wood floor can replace.

Home accents are the things such as bookcases, magazine racks, storage, shelving, storage cabinets, jewelry amoires, pillows, mirrors, coat racks, clocks, wall arts, accent tables and many more. These pieces will transform a dry, dull and lifeless home into something alive, vibrant and chic. Most homeowners would just buy furniture and would usually forget to put the right accent that goes with them. A sofa set needs the right centrepiece on its center table. The bedroom needs the right mirror that blends with the room's theme or motif. An ordinary living room will have a sophisticated and modern look if it is accented with a wall art. A study room can also have a modern flair. There are stylish and contemporary shelving or storage pieces that can create a modern look to an ordinary study room. A contemporary bathroom can also be transformed with a new look when it has the right accents such as a mirror and a decorative wall art.

How many times have you looked in a modern or contemporary home and noticed that it looks a lot like an art gallery? Why not use this effect to it's full potential. If you are creating a contemporary living room, why not use this space as your own personal gallery to show off a special sculpture or piece of wall art. You can use lighting to visually point everyone's eyes towards the piece as soon as they enter the room. Let's just say, for the purposes of an example, that I wanted to make a throw pillow that's seven inches square. Now you need to add a half inch to each side (in other words, a whole inch.) That's the size you'll end up cutting your fabric. Mine will end up being eight inches. That gives you enough room to sew around the edges. Cut two pieces of fabric in this size, then place the two right sides together. Pin one side, making sure that the two pieces are secure. Then, using a basic running stitch, sew to the other end one half inch from the edge. Backstitch a few times before ending with a knot. Continue this around two of the other sides, leaving one side open.

The view out of your windows changes with the season, so couldn't your window treatments change, too? If you have curtain panels consider changing them to a more seasonal color, whether retail or custom. You may also want to consider thermal panels that can help keep the cold out as the temperature drops. If you have blinds or roman shades you can do the same thing-update them with warmer, fall colors, or in either case, update an existing valance on your windows.

Start with the most simple of home accents that are not too flashy and are likely to become more timeless than outdated. These can be simple color schemes, or they can be a single design constant like a pattern or a flow. It is not too difficult to find matching themes from various places, but it can be more cost effective to use one website or store for your designing needs.
